Castle District

Castello district can be easily reached on foot, through the staircase leading from piazza Yenne to via del Cammino Nuovo or through via Manno, one of the main shopping streets of Cagliari, and via Mazzini.

The bastions of Saint Remy and Santa Croce offer not only a breathtaking view, but also the pleasure of having a drink and tasting the local specialities in various bars and restaurants.

The medieval towers of the Elephant and San Pancrazio overlook two different sides of the hill, while piazza Palazzo lets you discover the real heart of Castello, centre of religious, political and administrative power over the centuries: the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Royal Palace and the Former Town Hall.

The ancient Royal Arsenal is currently a Citadel of Museums including two national museums (the National Archaeological Museum and the Picture Gallery), a municipal museum (Siamese Art Museum “Stefano Cardu”), a regional ethnographic museum (Luigi Cocco Collection) and the Anatomical Waxes Museum Clemente Susini.

Saint Remy Bastion

The Saint Remy and Santa Croce bastions will give you a breathtaking view, as well as the opportunity to sip a drink or enjoy local specialties in bars and restaurants overlooking the city.

Medieval tower of the Elephant

The medieval towers of the Elephant and San Pancrazio stand majestically guarding two different sides of the hill, while Palazzo Square will open up the true heart of Castello before your eyes, for centuries the center of religious, political, and administrative power of the city: the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Royal Palace, and the City Palace.

As a result of the restoration works of the Regio Arsenale, the Citadel of Museums constitutes the most important exhibition center in the city, enclosing within its perimeter two national museums (Archaeological Museum and Pinacoteca), a civic museum (Siamese Art Museum "Stefano Cardu"), a regional ethnographic museum (Luigi Cocco Collection), and the Collection of Anatomic Waxworks Clemente Susini.

Viale Buon Cammino

The panoramic and tree-lined Viale Buon Cammino connects the Castle district with Stampace. Taking Via Sant’Ignazio, along which you can admire the Roman Amphitheater and visit the Botanical Garden, you will descend towards the starting point.

From Piazza Matteotti, overlooking the port area, the buses of the CTM company connect the city center to the Molentargius-Saline Regional Natural Park, inhabited all year round by pink flamingos, and to Poetto Beach, also known as the "beach of the Hundred Thousand.
